Creative Christmas Card Pregnancy Announcements: What’s Trending

One of my favorite things about the holiday season are all the Christmas cards we start to get from family and friends. And last year was uber special when our dearest friends Julia and Mike incorporated a little something into their holiday cards: A surprise Christmas pregnancy announcement! I feel like the holiday season is when we start to see more and more baby announcements pop up (and thinking back, it's when I also made some holiday baby announcements to our families for our Summer babies!).

If you're trying to brainstorm a pregnancy announcement idea around the holidays - whether for immediate family or your whole friends list - I turned to what has been trending on social media for article research. Maybe it will help ignite a few ideas to share your exciting news!

5 Christmas Card Pregnancy Announcement Ideas…

1. Do a simple shoot at home

Love how this family chose to grab a few black and white photos of their growing baby bump by the Christmas tree, and even the caption is perfect for holiday cards: "We’ve been waiting patiently for his arrival 👶🏽🎈Merry late Christmas 🎄 and happy holidays. Stay tuned for New Years announcement. We might be popping bottles 🍼" says Michael. This would make the perfect pregnancy announcement Christmas card!

2. A little play on words

It is the most wonderful time of the year according to Christmas music crooner Andy Williams, and taking the lyrics from another holiday song is such a cute way to make a baby announcement. Here Sami uses a letter board to say "No more Silent Nights!" in their holiday themed pregnancy announcement. Wouldn't this be perfect for a Christmas card?

3. Get Santa Claus involved

Ho Ho Oh Baby... why not get the big guy in on your big news? Love this announcement courtesy of @fertilityassociates to announce a special gift is on the way - the couple pictured snagged a photo with Santa Claus holding the sonogram picture. Add some simple typographic design to your card, and it's such a sweet way to say happy holidays.

4. Go for a pregnancy announcement ornament

I mean 'tis the season. Our CityMoms team photographer Britny mentioned she's seen this before where a couple takes their sonogram picture and carefully adds it to a glass ornament for a sweet holiday pregnancy announcement. Kristenn on Instagram did something similar for her pregnancy announcement photo - this would make such a sweet holiday card too!

5. How about a new year baby theme

If you (like me) just couldn't pull it together in time for Christmas cards, let alone a pregnancy announcement Christmas card, have fun instead with one in the new year! I love how this mama used her baby bump to accentuate the "0" in 2018 - it's such a fun way to share the exciting news of your new addition, but in a simple and easy way.

Planning a family photo shoot later this Winter and don't know what to wear?

Not wild about these suggestions? That's ok, here are a few more to get your brainwaves flowing:

  • Use candy canes to form a heart around your baby bump for a sweet, holiday-themed photo

  • Have mom and dad wear Santa hats, and hold a tiny Santa hat in between you

  • Show a box with Christmas-themed wrapping paper around it, and a pair of tiny shoes poking out

  • Create festive pregnancy announcement t-shirts for your photo

  • Take a photo of your mantel with the stocking hung and add an extra stocking or a tiny stocking to illustrate the new addition

  • Have big brother or big sister hold a letter board that says "All we want for Christmas is a new baby brother/sister”
